JE1 Task 3 Representation

Hero/Heroine
The Hero/Heroines character is represented as a bold and courageous character, usually they are kind and selfless and help others without even being asked to an example of this would be Red from the original Pokemon game who was a 10 year old child who took down a evil gang for the sake of good without being asked to. Also depending on the game depends of how the character will be but a common trope of RPG games or other games is the silent protagonist which allows you to put ourself as the Hero/Heroine, the silent protagonist usually also has options on what to say and has a lot of customisability. The Hero/Heroine can be very different depending on the game but there are usually a few things that stay common such as a bold and courageous persona, powerful or smart ad very chivalrous but these are not always true such as Vincent who was a womaniser and quite cowardly.

Red
Red is the very first hero i knew and was quite relatable since he was close to my age and i was able to put myself in his shoes since he was a silent protagonist. the game was also free world which meant that i could decide my own journey no matter how many times i played the game

Mario
Mario was one of the very first heroes and he was a very classic one, it showed Mario save the damsel in distress which was peach and it was a very simple and popular story
Vincent
Vincent is a womaniser and quite cowardly since he is just a normal guy going into a weird situation but outside of that he's still a good character.

Side Kick
The side kick character is usually a a funny or dipsy character that just supports the main character such a Yoshi is to Mario and a lot of the time but not every time it would be a animal. they are usually mascot characters that don't have much of a personality and are quite quiet but not all of them follow this example such as Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie who does talk and is a major character to the plot.

Pokemon

Yoshi
Kazooie
Kazooie's personality is very different from Banjo's who is the main character whos back pack she rides in. She is a wisecracking, obnoxious, sassy, cheeky, hot-tempered bird which goes together with Banjos very calm personality

Antagonist
The antagonist is usually a evil character nut they don't always have to be evil, they could just be misunderstood characters who are trying to fight for there own beliefs. Characters that are evil would be Giovanni or Bowser but a antagonist that is just misunderstood is N.

Giovanni/N
The antagonists of Pokemon vary greatly because on one hand we have Giovanni a gang leader with the objective of stealing peoples Pokemon for money, he is a evil man who will take out anyone who gets in his way even if that includes a 10 year old he will take on anyone who gets in his way on the other hand N is someone who loves Pokemon and wishes to free Pokemon from horrible trainers that mistreat them and keeps them in pokeballs so both are antagonists while one is evil and another is not.

Bowser
Bowser pushed the story of Mario along because he always steals the princess so that Mario can rescue her

The Collectable
The collectable is a type of character that or object that you can collect bit by bit, Pokemon can also count towards the collectable especially the legendary Pokemon because even casual Pokemon players will try to collect as many legendary Pokemon as they possible can. its the same for Digimon games, you are able to collect all the Digimon if you wish you, after collecting all the collectables you usually get something out of the game e.g. if you collect all the Pokemon you get the shiny charm which increases your chance of finding shiny Pokemon which a rarer versions of Pokemon. on Persona 4 you are able to collect both Personas and costumes for your characters. The collectables are usually quite welcoming and stand out such as when a Pokemon stands there pretty much asking for a fight.

Genders
Genders in video games are usually quite stereotypical just like the picture underneath makes them out to be. They can also be quite over exaggerated, sexual and offensive to both genders  such as when a female or a male character has a unreasonable body like when a female character has huge breasts which are really unrealistic or when a game character has such a huge body and no other man could compare. although these things are cool and make for a better game for certain people they can also have more negative effects on others such as depression and feeling like there is a unbreakable hurdle on themselves that they wish to surpass.
Female
This picture shows how games objectify woman and make them look way more sexualised than in real life and a major part of this is the fact that female armour is usually small and unrealistic just to sexualise them.

Male
This picture is of Whitebeard from One Piece: Burning Blood he is a character that has a unrealistic body that no man will ever achieve but more tan that he is there to show how cool a man with muscles is and these muscles are there to show how powerful he is.

Racism
Racism ican be quite a big problem in games or pretty much anything else in that matter because a lot of peopel can take a lot of offence. usually a black character is streotped in a very negative way such a being a thief or very violent. Black chaacters and white characters could be shown as violent bad guys but you would be more focused on the fact that the black ones are more violent since thats what you usually see, you also think of black peopel being in gangs which are usually enemies in games.
GTA

Mr Popo/Jynx
Both Mr Popo from the Dragonball series and Jynx from the Pokemon series was seen as racially insensitive and offensive because their skin was pure black and had very big lips which offended people so it was changed to a different colour. blue in the case of Mr Popo and purple in the case of Jynx.
